Temporary Hall Being Prepared for Oath Ceremony and New Parliamentary Session
Kathmandu – As the vote-counting process for the House of Representatives election enters its final stage, preparations have begun for the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected lawmakers and the upcoming parliamentary session.
According to constitutional provisions, a session of Parliament must be convened within 30 days of the announcement of the final election results. However, the permanent hall designated for the oath-taking ceremony and parliamentary meetings is not yet fully ready.
Before the parliamentary session begins, an oath-taking ceremony will be held for the newly elected members. Under the established procedure, the senior-most member will first take the oath from the Right Honourable President and will then administer the oath to the other lawmakers.
At present, there is no permanent building available for parliamentary meetings. After the Parliament building was damaged by fire during the “Jengji” movement, arrangements have had to be made for an alternative venue to conduct regular sessions. As a temporary solution, preparations are being made to use the multipurpose hall inside the under-construction new Parliament building within the Singha Durbar premises.
Ekaram Giri, spokesperson for the Federal Parliament Secretariat and Joint Secretary, said that construction of the hall has reached its final phase and is expected to be completed within the next few weeks.
Meanwhile, the Federal Parliament Secretariat has also planned a two-day orientation program aimed at enhancing the capacity of the newly elected lawmakers. According to spokesperson Giri, the program will mainly focus on practical issues such as the legislative process and how to raise questions effectively in Parliament.
