NFPJ concludes three-day Photojournalism training in Kathmandu
Kathmandu: The National Forum of Photo Journalists (NFPJ) Nepal has successfully completed a three-day photojournalism training programme aimed at strengthening the professional and technical skills of media professionals.
Organised with the support of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the training was held from July 3 to 5 at The British College in Thapathali, Kathmandu.
According to programme coordinator and NFPJ General Secretary Ghanshyam Shrestha, the training brought together 60 participants, including photojournalists, journalists working in different media organisations and individuals interested in photography.
The programme focused on improving the quality of news photography and developing participants’ skills in photo caption writing, image editing and visual storytelling. It also introduced participants to professional ethics, responsibilities and the effective use of modern digital technology in photojournalism.
Training sessions covered the history and development of photojournalism, news value, photo selection, caption writing, visual storytelling, lighting techniques, camera settings, breaking-news coverage, image editing and ethical practices.
Participants also took part in field photography, group discussions, practical exercises and photo-review sessions. Photographs captured during the field assignments were reviewed and evaluated on the final day of the programme.
Senior photojournalist and trainer Sunil C. Bajracharya and NFPJ Nepal President Pradip Raj Wanta facilitated the training sessions.
Senior photojournalist and former NFPJ president Min Ratna Bajracharya attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest and distributed certificates to the participants. He said skill-based programmes of this kind play an important role in strengthening the professionalism, creativity and sense of responsibility of photojournalists.
NFPJ President Wanta said capacity-building initiatives would help improve the overall standard of photojournalism in Nepal. He also expressed the organisation’s commitment to continuing similar training programmes in the future.
Programme Director Lekh Bahadur Shrestha “Sagar” said the training had contributed significantly to enhancing the knowledge, practical skills and professional confidence of the participants.
He added that NFPJ plans to organise more advanced training programmes on artificial intelligence, drone photography, videography and professional photography with wider participation in the coming days.
NFPJ Nepal thanked the ministry, The British College, trainers, guests, participants and all individuals and organisations that supported the successful completion of the programme.
