Nepal’s first hybrid motorcycle unveiled by Yamaha
Kathmandu – Yamaha has officially launched Nepal’s first hybrid motorcycle, marking a significant advancement in the country’s two-wheeler industry. The launch event took place at Sky Tower, Kamaladi, Kathmandu, a prominent venue that stands 78.5 meters (256 feet) tall, symbolizing the brand’s vision of elevating both technology and performance.
The event was structured in two phases, reflecting Yamaha’s engagement with both the digital and riding communities. The first phase featured an exclusive preview for influencers and content creators, while the second phase brought together a diverse group of media representatives, business partners, dealers, and members of the local riding community, including roadies, gang leaders, and racers. Prominent figures such as Vishnu Kumar Agarwal, Chairman; Deepak Kumar Agrawal, ED and CEO; Rajdeep Singh, GM Export Marketing; and Bipin Singh, DGM Export Marketing from Yamaha Motor India Sales were in attendance, alongside key stakeholders from the Yamaha family.
The event also featured the participation of notable personalities, including Barsha Basnet and Shreehari Poudel, who expressed strong enthusiasm for the product. The hybrid motorcycle was unveiled in a unique fashion, involving both a human and a robot, underscoring Yamaha’s commitment to hybrid technology and futuristic collaboration.
In a significant announcement, Yamaha introduced Anoop Bikram Shahi as its new brand ambassador, reinforcing the brand’s bold, stylish, and performance-oriented identity.
The highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the new hybrid motorcycle from Yamaha’s renowned FZ series. Known for its legacy since 2008, the FZ Series now integrates a cutting-edge hybrid system, combining Yamaha’s proven 149cc fuel-injected engine with advanced motor-assist technology. This next-generation hybrid system enhances acceleration, improves fuel economy, offers smoother start-stop functionality, and reduces emissions. It is particularly effective for urban riding, providing seamless power delivery during initial acceleration and low-speed cruising, making it a highly practical solution for Nepal’s evolving commuting needs.
As Nepal faces rising fuel costs and increased traffic congestion, this hybrid motorcycle offers a forward-thinking approach to everyday commuting. By combining the reliability of a traditional engine with the efficiency of electric assist, the bike delivers an impressive mileage of 60 km/l or more, lower running costs, and an environmentally friendly riding experience that is well-suited for Nepal’s varied terrain.
Vishnu Kumar Agarwal, Chairman of Yamaha, highlighted the significance of the launch, stating, “This introduction of hybrid technology in Nepal represents a major step forward for Yamaha. We are proud to bring smarter, more responsible performance to Nepali riders while continuing to offer advanced global innovations.”
The motorcycle features a lightweight 135 kg body, providing agility and a favorable power-to-weight ratio. It is equipped with single-channel Bosch ABS, a 220 mm rear disc brake, and wide radial tires for enhanced stability and grip. The hybrid assist system further improves the bike’s responsiveness, setting it apart from traditional motorcycles.
To further engage attendees, Yamaha created a dedicated Experience Zone, where the FZ Series legacy from 2008 to 2026 was showcased. This interactive space allowed attendees to explore the motorcycle’s history, features, and hybrid technology up close, reinforcing Yamaha’s commitment to creating immersive experiences.
In addition to its performance, the motorcycle reflects Yamaha’s distinctive design philosophy, featuring an LED headlight with separate high and low beams, a two-level seat for added comfort, a midship muffler with a refined exhaust note, and an engine under cowl for both protection and style. The bike is compatible with E20 fuel, and modern features such as a negative LCD instrument cluster further enhance its forward-thinking design.
Yamaha’s extensive network of 100 dealerships, 95 service points, and 117 authorized service providers across Nepal ensures comprehensive after-sales service and easy access to genuine spare parts, offering customers a seamless ownership experience.
Concluding the event, Deepak Kumar Agrawal, ED and CEO of Yamaha, expressed gratitude to Yamaha’s partners and customers: “This achievement is a reflection of the collective efforts of the entire Yamaha family. Together, we are proud to shape the future of mobility in Nepal.”
The event concluded with a celebratory tone, marking the beginning of a new era in Nepal’s motorcycle industry. Yamaha’s introduction of this hybrid motorcycle not only establishes a new product but also introduces a new category of hybrid motorcycles, redefining performance, efficiency, and sustainability. The future of motorcycling in Nepal has now officially begun.
