Government urges public to avoid sharing Misinformation
Kathmandu-The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology Nepal has urged the public not to spread false or misleading information.
In a press statement issued yesterday, the ministry said it has seen a growing trend of unverified and misleading content being shared through online media and social networks. It warned that such information can create confusion among people and negatively affect society.
According to the ministry, fake news can weaken public trust in information systems and disturb social harmony. Taking this seriously, it has made clear that strict action will be taken against those involved in spreading misinformation.
The ministry has asked media outlets, organizations, and individuals to verify information from official sources before publishing or sharing it.It also warned that anyone found spreading false information could face legal action under existing laws.
At the same time, the public has been requested to be responsible on social media. Users are advised to check the authenticity of any content before sharing it.The ministry has encouraged people to report any misleading information through its official complaint portal available on its website, or by contacting via phone or email if necessary.The message is clear: be careful, verify first, and help stop the spread of misinformation.
