Nepal debuts” First Safari Mart” to boost global wildlife tourism

Chitwan –The Nepal Tourism Board has officially launched its first-ever Safari Tourism Mart in Meghauli, aiming to position Nepal as a top global destination for sustainable wildlife tourism.
The event, Wild Nepal Safari Mart 2026, has attracted over 30 international delegates from Bangladesh, India, Thailand, Turkey, and Germany. Organized in coordination with local governments and tourism entrepreneurs, the Mart also includes representatives from major protected areas such as Chitwan National Park, Shuklaphanta National Park, and Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.

Speaking at the opening session, Mukunda Prasad Niraula, Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, said the event is an important platform to promote Nepal’s wildlife tourism globally. He highlighted that Nepal is known not only for its mountains but also for its rich biodiversity and unique cultural experiences.
Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Tourism Board, Deepak Raj Joshi, described the event as a milestone, emphasizing the theme “Rare, Remarkable and Responsible.” He said tourism should focus on protecting nature, supporting local communities, and promoting sustainable practices.

Vice Chairperson Ram Prasad Sapkota added that the Mart serves as a platform connecting global buyers, conservation experts, and local communities, helping promote Nepal’s authentic tourism experiences worldwide.
Acting Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Chitrasen Adhikari, welcomed the delegates and said the region is ready to develop as a global wildlife tourism hub.
International conservationist Mohit Agrawal highlighted the growing demand for responsible travel and noted that Nepal stands out for its strong conservation efforts and community-based tourism model.
According to Surya Thapaliya, the Safari Mart is designed to connect Nepal’s unique wildlife experiences with international markets and build long-term partnerships.
The event also featured presentations by experts such as Bishwo Raj Subedi and Ganesh Pant, who discussed opportunities and challenges in wildlife tourism.
In addition to business sessions, delegates enjoyed cultural performances, including traditional Tharu and Kumal dances.

With a mix of networking, field visits, and cultural exchange, the Wild Nepal Safari Mart 2026 is expected to strengthen Nepal’s position as a leading destination for sustainable wildlife tourism.
