Kathmandu – The Public Administration Association of Nepal announced Dr Ramkrishna Makaju Shrestha and former secretary Rameshwor Prasad Khanal as the recipients of the Hem Bahadur Malla Award for 2081 BS and 2082 BS, respectively.
The names were announced on Friday at a press meet and award announcement ceremony jointly organised by the Public Administration Association of Nepal and Salt Trading Corporation Limited in Kathmandu.
Makaju Shrestha has been recognised for his contribution to establishing and running Dhulikhel Hospital, which has emerged as a model healthcare institution in Nepal. The association said his leadership has contributed significantly to improving healthcare delivery, institutional development and public-oriented services.
Khanal, a former government secretary, has been selected for his contribution to public administration and public service, as well as his role in policy, administration and public-sector reforms, according to the association.
A selection committee headed by former government secretary and former president of the association Krishna Gyawali recommended the two names.
Established in 2060 BS in memory of late Hem Bahadur Malla, a former leader and manager of Salt Trading Corporation, the award recognises individuals who have made notable contributions to public administration, management, public service and areas of broader public interest.
Each recipient will receive a cash prize of Rs200,000 along with the honour. The awards will be presented at a special ceremony on August 24,2026.
The association informed 21 individuals from fields including public administration, healthcare, education, diplomacy, justice and social service have received the award so far.
The Public Administration Association of Nepal also conducts discussions, training, research, publications and national conferences aimed at strengthening professional networks and promoting evidence-based contributions to public policy and administration.
