KATHMANDU – Rescue teams have established verbal communication with people believed to be inside the Trishuli-3A Hydropower Project tunnel, providing a hopeful development as efforts to reach them continue.
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker and engineer Shriram Neupane, who is at the site and has been involved in the rescue efforts, said rescuers heard voices coming from inside the tunnel. Following the development, teams from the Nepal Army and Armed Police Force (APF) entered the tunnel and intensified the operation.
According to Neupane, rescuers have confirmed hearing the voices of more than one person. He described the development as an encouraging sign as security personnel continue working to locate and safely reach those inside.
Neupane said the rescue team called out, telling those inside not to panic and assuring them that rescue efforts were underway. A response of “okay” was then heard from inside the tunnel, indicating that communication had been established.
The latest development has raised hopes for the ongoing operation, but the exact number and condition of the people inside have not yet been confirmed. Rescue personnel are continuing efforts to reach them safely.
Authorities and rescue teams remain focused on the tunnel operation, with further details expected as personnel advance further inside and establish clearer contact with those awaiting rescue.
