Kathmandu – Two people, including a Chinese national and a woman, have been rescued alive from separate flood-affected locations, 11 days after the devastating Bhotekoshi flood struck Rasuwa and Nuwakot.
The Nepali Army rescued Chinese national from approximately 225 metres inside a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project. Army spokesperson Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet confirmed the successful rescue.
Upper Trishuli-1 is a 216-megawatt hydropower project under construction with the involvement of a Chinese contractor. The rescue came a day after Sanjay Shah and Kabir Maharjan were brought out alive from the Trishuli-3A tunnel.
In a separate operation, rescuers pulled Chandika Shrestha alive from a flood-buried house in Betrawati, Bidur Municipality–10. According to Armed Police Force spokesperson Netra Bahadur Karki, she was rescued from the home of her husband, Anand Shrestha.
The two rescues have renewed hopes of finding more survivors as security personnel and technical teams continue search operations across flood-affected settlements and hydropower projects.
