Kathmandu – Families and relatives of people still missing following the devastating Bhotekoshi floods gathered at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Monday, carrying photographs of their loved ones and urging authorities to intensify search and rescue operations at flood-hit hydropower projects.
The gathering included relatives of workers reported missing from the Upper Trishuli-3B Hydropower Project, where the flood caused extensive damage. Families called for the mobilisation of additional personnel, security forces and appropriate technology, while also seeking clearer and more regular information about ongoing rescue efforts.
The August 26 disaster left hundreds of people associated with hydropower projects unaccounted for across Rasuwa and Nuwakot. Search teams have continued operations at damaged project sites, including tunnels, powerhouses and other structures affected by floodwater, mud and debris.
For many families, the wait remains marked by uncertainty, with relatives still seeking confirmation about whether their loved ones survived, remain trapped or were swept away. Authorities have also established DNA sample collection facilities to assist in identifying recovered bodies and connecting them with their families.
At Maitighar, the photographs and appeals of the families reflected both grief and a continued demand for answers. Their message was direct: search and rescue efforts must be accelerated, and families must receive clear information about the fate of their missing loved ones.
