Kathmandu – Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu on Wednesday, November 4, for a two-day official visit as Nepal and India prepare for Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s proposed visit to New Delhi.
The visit, scheduled for November 4 and 5, comes at the invitation of Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai. Both countries jointly announced the visit on Monday, describing it as an opportunity to review bilateral cooperation and strengthen their longstanding relationship.
During his stay, Misri is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Rai, covering the overall state of Nepal-India relations and issues of mutual interest. The discussions are also expected to address preparations for Prime Minister Shah’s upcoming India visit.
Misri is expected to meet senior Nepali government officials and political leaders during his stay in Kathmandu. A courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Shah is also anticipated.
Prime Minister Shah is expected to travel to India in the latter part of November, although the dates have not been officially announced. The proposed trip would be his first formal bilateral foreign visit since taking office.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the visit will continue the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries and help strengthen cooperation across their broad bilateral partnership.
The discussions are expected to build on earlier diplomatic engagements covering development cooperation, connectivity, trade and transit, energy, and people-to-people relations.
The visit also follows the arrival of India’s newly appointed Ambassador to Nepal, Sudhakar Dalela, who reached Kathmandu on Tuesday to assume his diplomatic responsibilities. Dalela previously served as Secretary for Economic Relations at India’s Ministry of External Affairs and as India’s Ambassador to Bhutan.
With both countries preparing for a possible prime ministerial meeting, Misri’s visit is expected to help identify priorities and shape the agenda for the next phase of Nepal-India diplomatic engagement.
