Contemporary Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition Opens in Kathmandu to Strengthen Nepal-China Cultural Ties
Kathmandu- A contemporary Chinese painting and calligraphy exhibition featuring works from four of China’s major municipalities has opened in Kathmandu, aiming to further strengthen cultural ties between Nepal and China.
Titled “Lanting Gathering: Overseas Exhibition of Contemporary Chinese Painting and Calligraphy from Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing,” the exhibition was officially inaugurated on Wednesday at the China Cultural Center in Nepal.
Jointly organized by the China Cultural Center in Nepal, the China Center for International Cultural Exchange and Tourism Promotion, and the Beijing China Millennium Monument Art Foundation, the exhibition showcases 50 contemporary paintings and calligraphy works by renowned artists from Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Chongqing.

The exhibition will remain open to the public from July 15 to August 15 at the China Cultural Center in Kathmandu.Speaking at the inauguration, former Chancellor of the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, Naradmani Hartamchhali, described art as an important medium of cultural diplomacy between Nepal and China.
He said the opportunity for Nepali artists
and art enthusiasts to view outstanding works by Chinese artists in Nepal was rare and expressed confidence that such exhibitions would further deepen cultural cooperation between the two countries.
Director of the China Cultural Center in Nepal, Liu zhanping , said the exhibition had originally been planned for the Middle East but was relocated to Nepal due to the regional situation. He noted that Nepal, as the birthplace of Lord Buddha and a land of peace, provides an ideal venue for international cultural exchange.
“Art is the most effective medium for bringing the people of our two countries closer together,” Liu said.
Also speaking at the inauguration, exhibition curator and researcher at the Wu Guanzhong Art Research Center of Tsinghua University, Xu Hang, said the exhibition brings together works from Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing, reflecting the diversity, creativity and contemporary spirit of Chinese art. He said the exhibition presents a China that is deeply rooted in tradition while embracing modern artistic expression and expressed confidence that such cultural exchanges would further strengthen the centuries-old friendship and cultural ties between Nepal and China.

Exhibition curator and researcher at Tsinghua University, Xu Hang, said the artworks reflect the cultural diversity, creativity, and modern dynamism of contemporary China. He expressed confidence that exhibitions like this would further strengthen the centuries-old cultural relationship between Nepal and China.
The exhibition was formally inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by distinguished guests. During the event, certificates of appreciation were also presented to Nepali artists.

According to the organizers, the exhibition blends traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy with contemporary artistic expression, creating a broader platform for cultural dialogue between Nepal and China.
The exhibition is open to the general public throughout its month-long run.
