DJI Sets New Drone Altitude Record During Mount Everest Atmospheric Research Mission
Kathmandu -Chinese drone manufacturer DJI has successfully completed a 12-day atmospheric research mission in the Mount Everest region, marking a new milestone in high-altitude drone operations.
According to the company, its advanced FC-50 vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) fixed-wing hybrid drone reached an altitude of 8,861 meters while carrying a designated payload, setting a new altitude record for its class. The drone was deployed to support atmospheric research around Mount Everest and demonstrated stable flight performance despite the region’s extreme weather conditions, thin air, and low atmospheric pressure.
DJI said the achievement highlights the growing potential of drone technology for scientific research, environmental monitoring, and cargo transportation in some of the world’s most challenging terrains. The successful mission is expected to open new opportunities for the use of unmanned aerial systems in high-altitude environments, according to China’s state-run news agency Xinhua.
