Kathmandu – Nepal imported 27,806 motorcycles and scooters in Shrawan, the first month of fiscal year 2083/84, as electric two-wheelers continued to increase their share of the market.
According to the Department of Customs, the total value of two-wheeler imports during the month was around Rs. 4 billion, generating approximately Rs. 3.48 billion in government revenue.
Overall imports, however, declined by 7.52% compared with the same period last year. Nepal had imported 30,087 two-wheelers in the corresponding month of the previous fiscal year. More than 80% of this year’s imports were unassembled units, indicating the growing role of local assembly in the domestic market.
Electric two-wheelers recorded the strongest growth. Nepal imported 5,174 electric motorcycles and scooters in a single month for the first time, accounting for 18.6% of total two-wheeler imports.
The latest figures show that although overall two-wheeler imports have fallen slightly, electric scooters are becoming an increasingly important part of Nepal’s mobility market.
