Indian Foreign Secretary Meets Prime Minister Oli in Kathmandu
Kathmandu – Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Sunday. The meeting took place shortly after Misri arrived in Nepal for his two-day official visit at the invitation of Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Oli and Foreign Secretary Misri discussed matters of mutual interest, including Nepal-India relations, regional cooperation, and avenues for strengthening bilateral ties. Though details of the discussion were not immediately disclosed, officials indicated that the talks underscored the importance of continued engagement between the two neighbors, particularly in areas of trade, connectivity, energy, and people-to-people linkages.
Misri’s visit is being closely observed in diplomatic circles as it comes at a time when Nepal and India are looking to further consolidate their longstanding partnership. The two countries share deep cultural, historical, and economic ties, and high-level visits are often seen as opportunities to enhance trust and cooperation.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Misri is scheduled to hold further meetings with senior officials of the Government of Nepal during his stay. He is expected to discuss a wide range of bilateral issues, including post-pandemic economic recovery, cross-border infrastructure projects, and regional security.
This is Misri’s first official visit to Nepal since assuming office as India’s Foreign Secretary. Observers believe his engagements in Kathmandu will contribute to setting the tone for future cooperation and dialogue between the two South Asian neighbors.
