Nepal Will Host Big Climbing Event Honoring Everest Heroes
Kathmandu – The third edition of the Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Lead Climbing Competition is set to bring climbers from Nepal and abroad together in Kathmandu. The event is jointly organized by the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association and the US Nepal Climbers Association Inc.
The competition aims to promote sport climbing in Nepal while honoring Everest legends Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary. This year’s edition is special because it will be held in the lead climbing category for the first time, after the previous two editions were organized as top-rope competitions.
The event will feature separate male and female categories, with cash prizes for the top three winners. Organizers say the competition will encourage young climbers, strengthen Nepal’s adventure sports culture, and mark the historic Everest summit legacy in a more active and meaningful way.
