Nepal, China Tourism Stakeholders Call for Stronger Collaboration at China Tourism Day Event in Kathmandu
Kathmandu: China Tourism Day was observed in Kathmandu on Tuesday evening with an event attended by various Nepal, China stakeholders. The event titled “2026 China Tourism Day Joint Promotion and China Southern Airlines Appreciation Event” , jointly organized by the China National Tourist Office, China Cultural Centre and China Southern Airlines.
During the event, tourism stakeholders from Nepal and China have emphasized the need for stronger partnership and deeper collaboration to boost tourism exchanges, cultural relations, and people-to-people connectivity between the two countries.
Speaking at the event, Liu Zhanping, Director of China Cultural Center said tourism serves as an important platform for strengthening practical cooperation between Nepal and China. He said the program aimed to further promote tourism partnerships, cultural exchanges, and personnel exchanges between the two neighboring countries. 
Liu expressed happiness over Nepal becoming a major tourist destination for many Chinese nationals and said China was also eager to welcome more Nepali travelers to experience the country’s culture, heritage, and development. He added that tourism can promote mutual learning among civilizations and strengthen friendship among nations.
Similarly, Yang Wenfu highlighted the airline’s role in improving connectivity and enhancing tourism cooperation between Nepal and China. He said the airline was actively promoting tourist destinations in both countries and hoped for continued partnership and mutual benefits in tourism, aviation, and economic relations.
At the event, Nepal Tourism Board Officiating Director Sunil Sharma delivered a presentation showcasing Nepal’s tourism products and destinations, inviting international visitors to explore Nepal’s natural beauty, peaceful environment, and rich biodiversity.
Likewise, Zhao Pengjie of China National Tourism Office presented details about China’s major tourism destinations and UNESCO World Heritage sites, including Mount Kailash, Potala Palace, Forbidden City and the Terracotta Army Museum.
According to Zhao, China Tourism Day has been observed annually on May 19 since 2011 in honor of legendary Chinese traveler and geographer Xu Xiake, whose travel writings inspired generations of explorers.
Organizers noted that China Southern Airlines has been operating flights to and from Kathmandu since 2007 and recently completed 19 successful years in Nepal’s aviation industry. They emphasized that the continued expansion of the Kathmandu route would create more convenient travel options and open additional opportunities for Nepal’s tourism and travel sector.
During the event, the airline also honored its top-performing travel agency partners in Nepal for 2025, including Osho World Travel Nepal, Leisure World Tour and Travels, Sealink Travels, Prabas Travel and Tours, Sumegh Tours and Travel, Bon Travel and Tours, Pangolin Travels, Peace Zone Travels, Seven-Star International Tours and Travels, and Rupakot International Travels.
The program concluded with networking sessions and lucky draw activities, reinforcing the spirit of partnership and mutual cooperation between Nepal and China.
