Prime Minister Oli concerned about long lines at hospitals, urges immediate reforms
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed serious concern about the long lines of patients waiting for treatment at hospitals across the country. During a discussion held on Thursday evening at Singha Durbar, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to ensure that patients receive treatment without having to wait in queues.
The meeting, which focused on addressing the problems in the health sector and identifying immediate solutions, saw Prime Minister Oli questioning what arrangements could be made to provide seamless healthcare services to patients. He stressed the importance of making hospital services easily accessible and efficient.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Oli urged authorities to deploy doctors and health workers as needed, even by offering them proper incentives. He called for an end to the practice of government hospitals not attending to patients during office hours and instead referring them to private clinics.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister highlighted the need to abolish the practice of withholding treatment until a patient is admitted or refusing care due to an inability to pay. He also called for the health insurance system to be made practical and implementable, ensuring that it serves the needs of all citizens.
The discussion was attended by Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister; Pradeep Paudel, Health and Population Minister; the Chief Secretary, and other relevant officials.
