Second national economic Census begins nationwide from today
Kathmandu: The second National Economic Census has officially begun across the country from today, according to the National Statistics Office. Enumerators and supervisors have already been deployed to their respective areas to carry out the data collection process.
As per the schedule, field level data collection is expected to be completed within the first week of Asar. Nearly 5,000 personnel have been mobilized for the census. The Ministry of Finance has urged all stakeholders to cooperate, emphasizing that the census will gather crucial data related to the country’s overall industrial and economic sectors.
The census will collect basic information across 18 different areas of the economy, including industry, business, service sectors, cooperatives, private enterprises and public institutions. Key data such as the number and types of establishments, investment, employment, production and service delivery will be recorded.
The exercise will cover both registered and unregistered businesses across the country, including small and large enterprises, employment generating and self employed establishments, industries, factories, trade and commerce entities, non governmental organizations, government institutions as well as public and private schools and hospitals.
Preparatory work for the census was completed by the end of Falgun. At the beginning of Chaitra, a total of 84 offices covering all 77 districts along with seven additional offices were established to support the operation. These offices will remain functional until the end of Asar.
The first National Economic Census was conducted in 2018 2075 BS, which reported a total of 923,356 establishments and businesses operating across the country.
