Start of 17th Nepal-China (Tibet) Economic and Trade Fair: Today to 4th May
The Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari expressed with confidence that the commercial relations between Nepal and China’s autonomous region Tibet will reach new heights in the coming days.
During the inauguration ceremony of the 17th Nepal-China (Tibet) Economic and Trade Fair organized by the Trade and Export Promotion Center at Bhrikuti Mandap today, Minister Bhandari underlined the profound cultural ties between Tibet and Nepal, fostering strong economic relations on both sides of the Himalayas. He noted Nepal’s consistent support for trade cooperation with China, even in challenging geographical terrains like the high Himalayas, where modern transportation means were previously unavailable.
Minister Bhandari highlighted Nepal’s enduring friendship with China, expressing Nepal’s aspirations for China’s stability, unity, and prosperity. He praised China’s commitment to unity and integrity while expressing confidence in the future economic growth facilitated by the railway network linking China’s mainland and Tibet, potentially extending across the Himalayas.
Additionally, Minister Bhandari emphasized the significance of trade fairs in strengthening mutual trade, anticipating their contribution to fostering new markets and business opportunities for both nations’ businesses.
Lang Fukuan, Vice President of the Tibet Autonomous Region, Government of China, proposed connecting Nepal and Tibet in commercial relations. He suggested fostering real commercial relations between businesses of the two countries and cooperating in imports and exports. Moreover, His Excellency H.E Mr. Chen Song, the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, graced the occasion with his presence.
Dinesh Kumar Ghimire, Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce drew attention to the potential of export-led growth between the two countries through organized export. He urged Chinese investors to establish industries in Nepal to reduce Nepal’s trade deficit with China.
Sharad Bikram Rana, Executive Director, Trade and Export Promotion Center mentioned the objective of transparently expanding Nepal’s economic and trade relations with Tibet by organizing the Nepal-Tibet Economic and Trade Fair.
He conveyed that Nepali exporters could benefit from this fair through the facilitation of zero tariff rates, exporting their goods to China, and enhancing business with Tibetan business communities for mutual benefit.
The fair, which starts today and runs until the 22nd Baisakh (4th May), will host 50 Chinese and 15 Nepali business stalls. Nepali stalls will exhibit nearly 40 exportable goods from Nepal to China.
