Monsoon Intensifies Across Nepal; Heavy Rainfall Expected Over Next Three Days, Authorities Urge Caution
Kathmandu-The monsoon has become more active across Nepal, bringing rainfall to most parts of the country. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, light to moderate rain was recorded in various locations across all seven provinces overnight and into Monday morning.
Rain continues to fall in many areas, including the Kathmandu Valley, providing much-needed relief from the recent heat. The Division says the monsoon is expected to remain active over the coming days, leading to increased rainfall and a drop in temperatures.From this afternoon through the next two days, moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely in several parts of the country. The hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces are expected to receive widespread rainfall, while some areas of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces are also likely to experience moderate showers.
Thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are also expected in parts of the southern plains (Terai). Heavy rainfall is forecast in some hilly and Terai areas of Koshi and Gandaki provinces, raising the risk of localized flooding and landslides.Tonight, heavy rainfall is likely at a few locations in Koshi, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces. Strong winds are also expected in parts of the Terai of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, as well as in some areas of Madhesh Province.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall, along with gusty winds, is likely to continue through Tuesday and Wednesday. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has urged the public to remain alert and take necessary precautions, particularly in flood-prone, landslide-prone, and low-lying areas, as some locations could experience extremely heavy rainfall over the next two days.
