Kathmandu – Sending money from Nepal to a bank account abroad is set to become easier for NMB Bank customers. The bank has integrated Visa Direct, Visa’s global money movement platform, to strengthen its international fund transfer and cross-border remittance services.
Through the partnership, NMB Bank Limited has adopted Visa Direct to Account. It allows the bank’s account holders to make outbound international payments routed through Visa’s global network, with funds delivered to eligible recipient bank accounts in other countries.
Visa Direct’s network operates in more than 195 countries and territories. According to the bank, the integration is aimed at making cross-border transactions faster, more reliable and more secure, while reducing the hassle customers often face when sending money overseas.
For many Nepali families, international transfers are a regular need, whether it is paying a child’s tuition fees abroad, supporting relatives or settling payments with businesses in other countries. Faster and simpler outbound transfers through a familiar bank could make those tasks less stressful.
NMB Bank says the new service adds to its digital banking options, which are supported by a physical network of 197 branches, 176 ATMs and nine extension counters across Nepal.
The move is part of a wider push by Nepali banks and fintech companies to connect local customers with global payment networks. Recently, NIC Asia Bank enabled Apple Pay and Google Pay acceptance in Nepal, while Khalti expanded into Visa cards and other services.
Details such as transfer limits, fees and supported currencies have not yet been made public. Customers are advised to check with NMB Bank before making their first international transfer.
